Alfa Romeo Unveils Cuorerosso Concept, Hinting at Electrified Future and Design Evolution
The striking 2+2 coupé concept car, named 'red heart' in Italian, showcases potential design language and powertrain strategies for the brand.
Alfa Romeo has unveiled the Cuorerosso, a concept car presented at the Paris Motor Show that provides a glimpse into the brand's future design direction and electrification plans. The 2+2 coupé, whose name translates to 'red heart' in Italian, may not enter production but signals the aesthetic and technological path Alfa Romeo intends to follow.
The Cuorerosso concept embodies a fusion of supercar and grand tourer elements. Measuring approximately the same length as the current Giulia saloon, its shape is significantly more dramatic. Adding to its striking appearance are opposite-hinged front and rear doors, creating a wide, framed entrance. This design aligns with Alfa Romeo's "Necessary Beauty" philosophy and highlights its approach to future powertrains, which will include electric and various hybrid options.
Alfa Romeo stated that its future model range will offer a spectrum of powertrain choices, including mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric variants for its petrol and electric vehicles. The company also proposed a technical specification for its next-generation Quadrifoglio performance models, envisioning a kerb weight of 1,750kg paired with a hybrid 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine driving all four wheels.
Visually, the Cuorerosso features a long, pointed bonnet, short overhangs, and the signature Alfa Romeo 'scudetto' grille. Its narrow headlights are sculpted to resemble scowling eyes, complemented by a backlit Alfa crest. The aerodynamic body sweeps back to a distinctive 'Coda Tronca' (truncated tail) and a Scudetto-shaped rear window, giving the rear a distinct supercar edge with two circular lights.
The interior design draws inspiration from the 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. It boasts a minimalist, driver-centric interface that displays information only when necessary. Physical buttons are retained to emphasize driver engagement. The concept incorporates Stellantis' steer-by-wire technology, visible in the flat-top steering wheel, which is a modern interpretation of Alfa's classic three-spoke design. This steering wheel also allows an unobstructed view of the 'Cannocchiale Vivente' dynamic gauge cluster, a reinterpretation of Alfa Romeo's traditional twin-pod display.
While the Cuorerosso is a concept and not slated for immediate production, it is expected to influence future Alfa Romeo models, potentially steering the brand back towards its heritage in racing and sports saloons, away from its recent diversification into small SUVs. The concept's design and technological proposals suggest a renewed focus on performance and iconic styling for the Italian marque.
