Alfa Romeo Unveils Cuorerosso Concept Car, Hinting at Future Design and Electrification
The 'red heart' concept car, revealed at the Paris Motor Show, showcases potential design language and powertrain options for the Italian brand.
Alfa Romeo has unveiled the Cuorerosso concept car at the Paris Motor Show, offering a glimpse into the brand's future design direction and electrification strategy. The 2+2 coupé concept, whose name translates to 'red heart' in Italian, may not enter production but signals a potential path forward for Alfa Romeo.
Designed with elements of both supercar and grand tourer, the Cuorerosso shares a similar length with the current Giulia saloon but presents a more dramatic aesthetic. Opposite-hinged front and rear doors enhance its striking appearance, creating a large, unified entrance.
The concept adheres to Alfa Romeo's 'Necessary Beauty' philosophy and illustrates how the company envisions its future powertrain offerings. These will include a mix of electric and hybrid powertrains, alongside continued internal combustion engine options enhanced with mild hybrid technology.
The Cuorerosso features a long, pointed bonnet, short overhangs, the signature Alfa Romeo 'scudetto' grille, and narrow, sculpted headlights. A backlit Alfa crest adds a distinctive touch. The aerodynamic body design sweeps back to a truncated tail, or 'Coda Tronca,' complemented by a Scudetto-shaped rear window and circular taillights.
Inside, the minimalist dashboard is inspired by the 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. The driver-focused interface displays information only when necessary and emphasizes physical buttons for an engaging driving experience. The concept incorporates Stellantis' steer-by-wire technology, with a flat-top steering wheel offering a modern interpretation of Alfa's classic three-spoke design. This wheel also aims to improve visibility of the 'Cannocchiale Vivente' dynamic gauge cluster, a reinterpretation of Alfa Romeo's traditional twin-pod display.
While a production model is uncertain, the Cuorerosso is expected to influence future Alfa Romeo models, potentially steering the brand back towards its heritage of racing cars and sports saloons, moving away from its recent focus on small SUVs.
The concept also outlines a potential technical specification for future Quadrifoglio performance models, suggesting a kerb weight of 1,750kg paired with a hybrid 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine driving all four wheels.
Alfa Romeo has stated that its future powertrain strategy across all models will encompass mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric options.
