The sprawling California ranch and vineyard once owned by "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek has sold for $16.9 million at auction, significantly below its previous asking price of $33 million. The 724-acre estate, known as Windfall Farms, is located in the rolling hills of Paso Robles.
The property went to the highest bidder during Monterey Car Week and the sale is now pending, according to Concierge Auctions, which handled the sale in partnership with Sotheby’s International Realty.
Trebek, who hosted "Jeopardy!" until his death in November 2020 at age 80, owned the ranch for 37 years. He and other investors sold the property for $1.6 million in 2001 to Barry and Donna Goldfarb, who have since expanded it. Trebek originally used the compound as a thoroughbred horse breeding haven.
The estate retains equestrian facilities, including a 6.5-furlong racetrack, large paddocks, and space for a regulation polo field. It also features an industrial-grade, three-bay machine shop.
The main residence spans 10,000 square feet and includes eight bedrooms, offices, conference rooms, a large kitchen, dining and living areas, a media room, 12 bathrooms, and two separate manager residences.
Windfall Farms is also a significant wine-producing property, with 387 acres of planted wine grapes operating as a "positive cash flow business in production today," according to the listing. The property is supplied with water by seven wells and the Huero Huero Creek.
The property also presents development potential, with 76 approved, buildable 10-acre lots. Paso Robles has become a prominent wine destination, attracting affluent buyers to its scenic landscapes.
The estate is managed by agricultural firm Limoneira and is located near established vineyards such as Justin and Halter Ranch.
