Alex Scott Departs Disney+'s Women's Champions League Coverage

Alex Scott has stepped down from her presenting role for Disney+'s Women's Champions League coverage, citing a desire to focus on other projects. Scott's departure comes weeks after the launch of "The Hangout," a new show intended to attract a younger audience, which drew significant criticism from fans.

Scott had been part of Disney+'s coverage since the streaming service acquired broadcasting rights for the competition in 2025. In a statement, Disney+ expressed gratitude for Scott's contributions, noting her passion for the women's game.

The debut of "The Hangout" was met with a strong negative reaction on social media. Critics targeted the show's format, which included a rotating sofa, an influencer dog named Barley used to predict match outcomes, and discussions that at times appeared to sideline the football itself. The program was also criticized for including an unscheduled advert break during a match.

Fans expressed dismay at the show's approach, with some arguing that it pandered to a perceived "Gen Z" demographic rather than focusing on the game and its players. Comments highlighted a preference for impartial analysis and traditional post-match interviews over unconventional segments.

Scott's departure from Disney+ follows her emotional farewell to the BBC's "Football Focus" program at the end of the previous season. The long-running show was canceled after 52 years due to declining viewership and BBC budget cuts. Scott also recently launched her own Women's Super League show, "One More Word WSL."
