A former juror in the Alex Murdaugh murder trial has filed a court document seeking to unseal records from the state's investigation into alleged jury tampering by the former Colleton County court clerk. Myra Crosby, identified as the "egg juror," is pursuing public access to the probe into Becky Hill, according to a report.
Crosby filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in May for the release of records concerning Hill's alleged jury tampering. Hill is central to the investigation, having been accused of instructing jurors not to be swayed by Murdaugh's defense. Her actions were cited by the South Carolina Supreme Court when it overturned Murdaugh's double murder conviction in March.
The high court stated that the integrity of the jury's decision was compromised by Hill's conduct. Following this ruling, Murdaugh is slated for a retrial.
In response to Crosby's FOIA request, the Attorney General's office indicated that certain video records might require redactions to protect juror identities. However, Crosby argues that these redactions are unnecessary as jurors have already spoken publicly in court and in media interviews. She contends that any necessary redactions should not impede the release of the records.
Crosby earned the nickname "egg juror" after she was dismissed shortly before deliberations began and asked a judge if she could retrieve a carton of eggs and her purse she had left in the jury room. Fox News Digital has reached out to the South Carolina Attorney General's office, Crosby's attorney, and Hill's attorney for comment.
