Alex Hassell Attends Bond Event Amidst Casting Rumors
Actor Alex Hassell fueled speculation about being the next James Bond when he attended an OMEGA event related to the franchise.
Actor Alex Hassell has become the subject of speculation regarding the next James Bond following his attendance at an OMEGA Seamaster James Bond and Spectre dinner. Hassell, 46, who recently starred in the Disney+ series "Rivals," previously expressed his desire to play the iconic secret agent.
His presence at the event has led fans to wonder if he is the "mystery" actor who reportedly participated in final screen tests. Hassell, when questioned about the rumors, humorously responded, "You tell me!" He also told The Times, "I would love to be touted as the next James Bond, but nobody's touted me."
Reports indicate that a shortlist of actors has been undergoing screen tests at Bray Studios, with Callum Turner and Jack Lowden among those who have auditioned. A mystery individual was also seen leaving the auditions on Saturday. Social media has been abuzz with theories, with Joe Alwyn's name frequently mentioned as a potential candidate.
Fans have noted that Alwyn's casting would be logical, citing his existing relationship with casting director Nina Gold, who has known him since drama school. Some speculate that the secrecy surrounding this particular actor might stem from him being the most likely choice for the role.
Screen tests were reportedly scheduled to continue throughout the weekend, with three to five actors believed to be in the final stages. A source told the Daily Mail that the search for Daniel Craig's successor has been ongoing for years, and that Turner had his chance to impress the producers on Friday.
Bray Studios, now owned by Amazon MGM Studios, which controls the Bond franchise, is a historic production site. Turner has long been considered a front-runner for the role. Other actors linked to the part include Scottish actor Jack Lowden, Josh O'Connor, and Australian actor Jacob Elordi, though the latter's casting might displease fans who advocate for a British Bond.
Bond producer Amy Pascal indicated in August that a decision could be made by the end of the year, with filming for the next installment potentially beginning in 2027. Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the upcoming film, and casting discussions began in May. Pascal emphasized the methodical approach to finding a successor to Daniel Craig, stating the need for "something really different that is stirring and exciting and different."
Previously, actors such as Harris Dickinson and Jack Barton were also rumored to be in contention. The official James Bond film series has featured six actors in the titular role: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.
