Alex Call Receives Cheerful Welcome at NLCS Amidst Ad Controversy
Dodgers outfielder Alex Call was met with applause at Dodger Stadium following his public criticism of racy advertisements during MLB playoff broadcasts.
Dodgers outfielder Alex Call was introduced to a warm reception from fans at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, just hours after he publicly criticized advertisements airing during MLB playoff games, calling them "soft porn." The outfielder received cheers from the crowd before Game 3 of the National League Championship Series between the Dodgers and the Brewers.
Call had taken to social media on Tuesday to express his dismay over the commercials, some of which featured actress Sydney Sweeney promoting the prediction market Novig. He stated his concern that parents would have difficulty explaining such content to their children during what he called "America's Pastime."
"Can we please get the soft porn ads off playoff broadcasts, TBS, Fox, NBC, @MLB?" Call wrote on Twitter. "My son wants to watch baseball with Dada, but how do I justify that when a half-naked women [sic] could come on screen anytime?? This is America’s Pastime. Parents shouldn’t have to worry about this."
His remarks generated mixed reactions online, with some users agreeing with his sentiment and others suggesting that the revenue from advertisements contributes to player salaries. Despite the online debate, the response at Dodger Stadium indicated that many fans supported Call's stance.
