Aldi Recalls Hairdryers Due to Electric Shock Risk
Budget supermarket Aldi has issued an urgent recall for its Ambiano Ionic Hairdryer, citing a high risk of electric shock.
Aldi has urgently recalled its range of copycat Dyson hairdryers after warning they pose a 'high risk of electric shock'. Customers who purchased an Ambiano Ionic Hairdryer are advised to stop using the appliance immediately and return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refund.
The £12 hairdryer was marketed as an affordable alternative to the Dyson Supersonic, which retails for approximately £250. Aldi has withdrawn the product as a precautionary measure due to safety concerns.
According to an official recall notice, the hairdryer's power cord may become damaged over time, potentially exposing live electrical components or causing overheating. Contact with an exposed live part could result in an electric shock.
The affected hairdryers were sold in Aldi stores between August and September 2025. The model number is 849855. The barcode numbers for the affected products are 4061462195075 (black), 4061462195211 (white), 4061462195310 (yellow), and 4061462195372 (orange).
An Aldi spokesman stated, "As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling the Ambiano Ionic Hairdryer [sold between August and September 2025] because of a technical fault. Anyone who bought this product should return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
The Office for Product Safety & Standards confirmed the risk, stating, "The product presents a risk of electric shock or fire as, over time, the power cord may become damaged, allowing access to live parts or causing overheating. If the user were to touch an accessible live part, they could receive an electric shock. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016."
This recall follows previous product withdrawals by Aldi. Earlier in 2026, the retailer recalled pre-cooked salmon due to a labelling error that incorrectly stated the use-by date. Last year, Aldi also recalled its Gianni's Cheeky Monkey Ice Cream because it contained undeclared gluten, posing a risk to individuals with coeliac disease or wheat intolerance.
