Alan Ritchson has spoken out for the first time about a March altercation with a Tennessee neighbor, describing the incident as the "scariest thing I’ve ever been through." Appearing on the "Armchair Expert" podcast Monday, the actor provided his account of the street fight, which involved a neighbor identified as Ronnie Taylor.
Ritchson alleged that while he was riding his motorbike with his children, Taylor unexpectedly stepped in front of him. The actor stated that Taylor, who he described as being "huge – the same size as me," approached him aggressively and smelled of alcohol. Ritchson claimed he was "two-hand shoved off the bike" when he attempted to leave the situation.
"At that point, there’s no conversation. I’ve got to protect me and got to protect my kids and get us off the street safely, and that means getting the guy out of the picture. So I hit the guy," Ritchson said. He stated this was the first time in his life he had to resort to physical self-defense.
The incident has had a lasting impact, with Ritchson sharing that his sons are now reluctant to go on bike rides with him. "F–k that," he commented, expressing lingering anger and resentment toward Taylor.
Ritchson also detailed the chaotic aftermath, noting he was the sole caretaker for his children and had no way to contact his wife while police arrived at his home. He expressed being "terrified" and concerned his career was over. "The cops came to arrest me that day and only had [a tape from a neighbor] to go off of," he said.
A key element of Ritchson's account was the presence of a body camera he had purchased a year prior but had only begun wearing that morning. He believes the footage captured by the camera was instrumental in preventing his arrest. "If I hadn’t had that, dude, I’d probably still be in jail. The cops came to my porch and only had a neighbor's tape to go off of. My video changed the course of my life forever," Ritchson stated.
Until this podcast appearance, Ritchson had remained largely silent on the matter, aside from a social media post referencing an enemy's mistake. Taylor, conversely, had spoken to media outlets and shared photos of his injuries, details Ritchson disputed, claiming he had never met Taylor before the incident and that Taylor's account of prior interactions was untrue. Ritchson maintained in his police statement that Taylor was the aggressor and he was forced to defend himself.
Ritchson, who ultimately faced no criminal charges, suggested that his career was on the line and that the body camera footage was a life-saving intervention.
