Alan Ritchson, star of the Amazon Prime Video series 'Reacher,' has shared his account of a physical altercation with a neighbor that occurred on March 22 in Brentwood, Tennessee. Ritchson stated that his decision to wear a body camera on the day of the incident was a "gift from God" that ultimately supported his claim of self-defense, leading police to close the case without pressing charges.

The Confrontation

The incident involved Ritchson and his neighbor, Ronnie Taylor. According to Ritchson, the dispute began when Taylor allegedly stepped in front of his motorcycle to stop him from speeding. Ritchson described the encounter as the "scariest thing" he has experienced, stating Taylor approached him aggressively.

Ritchson recounted that he was on his motorcycle with his children present when Taylor stepped in front of him. He claimed to smell alcohol on Taylor and attempted to leave. However, Ritchson stated Taylor then shoved him off his bike. "There was no at that point there's no more conversation. I've got to protect me and I've got to protect my kids and I've got to get us off the street safely and that means getting him out of the picture. So I hit the guy," Ritchson explained.

Police Investigation and Body Camera Footage

The Brentwood Police Department investigated the incident. The police report noted that officers detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Taylor. Taylor sustained injuries including a bleeding bump on his head, and redness and inflammation on his nose, jaw, and chin, consistent with being punched.

Taylor’s account detailed in the police report stated that he intervened because Ritchson was allegedly revving his motorcycle loudly and speeding in the neighborhood with children playing. Taylor claimed that after he stepped in front of the bike, Ritchson fell, then pushed him and began punching him. Taylor stated he called the police after Ritchson left the scene.

However, officers reviewed video footage from Ritchson's body camera and a witness. The footage, according to the report, appeared to corroborate Ritchson's account in several aspects. One officer noted that the video showed Ritchson punching Taylor while Taylor was on his hands and knees.

Another part of the report indicated that Taylor physically blocked Ritchson's path, causing Ritchson to brake suddenly and crash his motorcycle. Ritchson then questioned Taylor about whether he had been drinking.

Ritchson, who identifies as a devout Christian, said his decision to wear the body camera was intuitive. He described an urge to put it on that day, even though he had not used it before. "If anything makes you go, 'Maybe God is real' it’s [that]. The cops came to arrest me that day and only had [a tape from a neighbor] to go off of… Thank God. It was a gift from God. I think that I had that premonition or that that intuition that I put it on. [My video] changed the course of my life forever," Ritchson stated.

Aftermath

The police department concluded that Ritchson acted in self-defense, closing the case without charges. Despite the legal outcome, Ritchson mentioned that his sons are now hesitant to go on bike rides, and he harbors resentment towards Taylor over the incident.

Ritchson is known for his role as Jack Reacher in the Amazon Prime Video series. The fourth season of the show is expected in 2026. He is married to Catherine, and they have three sons.
