Alan Ritchson Claims Studios Discouraged Political Commentary

Alan Ritchson, star of the Amazon Prime Video series "Reacher," has claimed that studios have actively discouraged him from making public political statements. During a panel at Fan Expo Canada, Ritchson recounted receiving calls from production studios with requests to "shut the f--- up, please? Stop talking in public."

Ritchson also suggested that a storyline involving White supremacists for "Reacher" was rejected, implying a political motivation tied to former President Donald Trump's re-election. He wrote on Threads that he had initially received approval for the adaptation of a book where the protagonist, Jack Reacher, eliminates a White supremacist militia camp, but the approval was rescinded after Trump's return to office.

These statements follow Ritchson's previous public comments. In an April 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ritchson criticized Christian supporters of Trump, calling him a "rapist and a con man." He stated he did not understand how the Christian church appeared to treat Trump as a figurehead. A month later, Ritchson claimed that sharing such views had resulted in him being "met with violence."

Christian Toto of Hollywood in Toto commented that Ritchson's political commentary could be detrimental to his career. Toto suggested that Ritchson's public statements are "hysterical blather" and that "Reacher" fans are noticing. Toto questioned why Ritchson would not heed studio requests to remain apolitical, asked if such requests were common across studios, and whether Ritchson understood the potential for audiences to be alienated by his rhetoric.
