Alan Ritchson, star of the Amazon Prime Video series "Reacher," has detailed a physical altercation with a neighbor that occurred on March 22 in Brentwood, Tennessee. Ritchson claims a "premonition" to wear a body camera on the day of the incident was a "gift from God" that ultimately saved him from potential jail time.

The confrontation began when Ronnie Taylor, Ritchson's neighbor, allegedly stepped in front of Ritchson's motorcycle to stop him from speeding through the residential area. Ritchson, who was with his children at the time, described the encounter as the "scariest thing" he has experienced.

According to Ritchson, Taylor approached him aggressively, and after smelling alcohol on Taylor's breath, Ritchson attempted to leave. Taylor then allegedly shoved Ritchson off his bike. "I've got to protect me and I've got to protect my kids and I've got to get us off the street safely and that means getting him out of the picture. So I hit the guy," Ritchson stated on the "Armchair Expert" podcast.

The Brentwood Police Department investigated the incident and concluded that Ritchson acted in self-defense, closing the case without pressing charges. An incident report obtained by the Daily Mail indicated that Taylor appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, with one officer noting a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person."

Taylor's account, as detailed in the police report, stated that he stepped into the street to tell the motorcyclist to slow down due to children playing. He claimed that Ritchson fell, then pushed him and began punching him. Taylor reported that Ritchson returned, pushed him to the ground again, and punched him while he was on the ground before leaving.

Conversely, the report also described footage that appeared to corroborate parts of Ritchson's account. One officer noted viewing a witness video showing Ritchson punching Taylor while Taylor was on his hands and knees. The video also reportedly showed Ritchson revving his motorcycle engine to prompt Taylor to move, pushing him down, and then punching him. Another part of the report states that Taylor "took two side steps into RITCHSON’s path and blocked his travel, causing RITCHSON to go from approximately 17mph to zero almost instantly," which caused Ritchson to crash his motorcycle.

Ritchson, a devout Christian, explained his decision to wear the body camera. "I bought it thinking like maybe I'll just use that and I put it away. Never once have I thought like, I need to put that thing on. And I step into the garage that day and it was like somebody talked to me," he said. He believes the footage captured by the camera significantly influenced the outcome of the police investigation.

Ritchson sustained minor injuries himself, including an abrasion on his right elbow and jammed thumbs. He stated that his sons are now hesitant to go on bike rides due to the incident, and he still harbors resentment towards Taylor.

The police report also noted that Taylor refused medical treatment but had visible injuries consistent with being punched, including a bleeding bump on his head, and redness on his nose, jaw, and chin. Taylor claimed he had consumed a drink while watching soccer earlier that day.

Ritchson is best known for his role as Jack Reacher in the Amazon Prime Video series of the same name. The fourth season of the show is slated for release in 2026.
