Alan Milburn's Wife Exits £1 Million Business Amid Family Focus

Ruth Milburn, wife of former Health Secretary Alan Milburn, has resigned her directorship from the private consultancy firm AM Strategy, which she co-founded with her husband in 2006. She also redeemed her Class B shares in the company, valued at over £1 million, according to recently filed documents at Companies House.

AM Strategy, which provided advice to businesses including those in the healthcare sector, holds accumulated profits exceeding £4.6 million. The company reported profits of £793,000 in the last financial year.

Alan Milburn, who served as Health Secretary under Prime Minister Tony Blair, stepped down from the Cabinet in 2001, citing a desire to spend more time with his family. He later commented that his life was "a million times better, with much less worry and much more time." Milburn, 68, has since led a government review into unemployment and advises the private equity firm Bridgepoint Capital.

His wife, Ruth, 63, qualified as a GP before specializing in psychiatry. The couple married in 2007 and have two adult sons. Milburn has declined to comment on whether his wife's departure from AM Strategy signifies a change in their marital status.
