The concrete cow was the sole item left unsold after a seven-and-a-half-hour auction of hundreds of items from Ayton Castle, according to auctioneer Jim Railton. Comedian Alan Carr, who is keeping the unsold cow, was part of the event.
The collection of concrete animals, which included cows, sheep, and a giraffe, was originally created in the 1960s by a retired joiner to entertain his disabled son. It evolved into a large collection and became a visitor attraction before being sold and relocated to Ayton Castle in 2021. The pieces have now been auctioned off, with the cow being the only exception.
Railtons Auctioneers described the auction as a "very busy day" with "seven-and-a-half hours of selling non-stop." The sale saw hundreds of items from the castle find new owners.
