An Alabama attorney, Sara Baker, is accused of attempting to poison her stroke-survivor husband for a second time while she was out on bond. Baker, 75, allegedly provided an old prescription bottle containing approximately 12.2 grams of a purple powder, believed to be fentanyl, to her husband's caregivers on July 11. This incident occurred during a visit to the home of James "Doyle" Baker, who has been homebound and required medical care since suffering a stroke in 2022.

According to court records, Baker asked a nurse for an empty medication bottle on June 11. She reportedly returned on June 19 with a black bag, which investigators believe contained the bottle, and instructed the caregiver to place it in a safe. The caregiver, suspicious of the package, contacted the police. A subsequent search warrant executed on the home led to the discovery of the bottle filled with the purple substance. Lead investigator Zachary Latham testified in court that testing confirmed the powder to be fentanyl.

Baker was arrested on July 11 and is currently being held without bond. Circuit Judge Gregory Williams stated in his order that Baker committed a new criminal offense by transporting and storing a significant amount of fentanyl at the victim's residence. The judge concluded that her release posed a risk to public safety and that no conditions of bond could ensure compliance with court orders.

Baker had previously been arrested on November 25 and charged with multiple offenses, including conspiracy to commit murder, three counts of attempted murder, distribution of a controlled substance, elder abuse, domestic violence, and solicitation to commit a controlled substance crime. These charges stemmed from allegations that she had administered the synthetic opioid into her husband's food and drinks over several days between September 4 and September 20, 2025. She was released on a $400,000 bond with the condition that she have no contact with her husband.

Despite the bond conditions, Baker allegedly continued to visit the residence and intervene in her husband's medical care. However, her husband, Doyle Baker, testified in court that his wife had adhered to her bond conditions and had maintained no contact with him after her initial arrest. He expressed confusion about the new proceedings, stating, "I have no idea why we’re here today. We kept that clean all the way."

Baker, a former attorney in the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office, was reportedly out on bond when the alleged new attempt occurred. The notes also mention that a witness in her initial arrest was a former client of Baker's, and that she had previously been indicted for swallowing fentanyl in an attempt to destroy evidence. Her social media presence reportedly included posts critical of Republicans.
