Al Roker Left Speechless by Carson Daly's 'Awkward' On-Air Moment

Al Roker found himself momentarily speechless after co-host Carson Daly engaged in what Roker described as 'awkward' on-air behavior during a recent 'Today' show broadcast. The unexpected interaction occurred as Roker was preparing to deliver the weather report on Monday.

As co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Sheinelle Jones, who was filling in for Craig Melvin, handed over to Roker, Daly could be heard offering his microphone to Roker, who was struggling with his own equipment. After Roker appeared to resolve the issue, Daly entered the frame and embraced him in a tight hug.

"Oooh baby," Roker responded after the hug. Once Daly released him, Roker, visibly flustered, admitted, "That was... that was awkward." Guthrie lightheartedly attributed the close encounter to the show's recent broadcasts from Europe, joking, "We got really close in Ireland." Roker played along, adding, "We did get a little too close as you can see. Luck of the Irish right there." He then adjusted his jacket before turning to the weather map.

This is not the only recent on-air disruption for the 'Today' show. Earlier this month, during a discussion about a weight loss drug, a producer unexpectedly walked across the background of the third-hour segment, causing guest Dr. Natalie Azar to lose her train of thought. The producer, Cecilia Fang, later emerged from behind a desk, appearing to try and hide from the camera. Roker humorously remarked that Fang must be "in the witness protection program" for her fleeting appearance. Craig Melvin expressed surprise, stating he had "never seen that" in his career.

Earlier this month, Roker, Melvin and Dylan Dreyer had been co-hosting the third hour of the morning show when things took a turn for the worse
