Al Roker Departs 'Today' Show Mid-Broadcast for Jury Duty

Al Roker made an abrupt departure from the "Today" show on Monday, leaving mid-broadcast to fulfill his jury duty obligations. The longtime meteorologist shared the reason for his exit in an Instagram video posted outside a New York City courthouse.

"Well, got out of the ‘Today’ show early because I’ve got jury duty," Roker, 72, stated in the video. "It’s everybody’s civic duty to do the duty." He humorously noted his repetition of the word "duty" before sharing the clip with the caption, "Hey now!!! All rise!! Time for #juryduty."

During the "Today" broadcast, Roker delivered the weather forecast multiple times before leaving Studio 1 at Rockefeller Center. Savannah Guthrie informed viewers that Dylan Dreyer would be stepping in for him. Dreyer, 45, commented on the change, calling it "a little switcheroo again this morning."

Roker's absence extended to the show's third hour, which he co-hosts with Dreyer and Craig Melvin. Sports reporter Kaylee Hartung filled in for him during that segment. Melvin, 47, assured the audience that Roker would return the following day.

Earlier on Monday, Roker had posted a video from his gym workout, featuring treadmill, weightlifting, and balance exercises, set to the theme song of "The A-Team." He credited his trainer, Jose Garcia, for his morning routine, emphasizing the mantra "#somethingisbetterthannothing."

This is not the first time Roker has been in the news regarding "Today" show security. In July, an intruder identified as Andrew Truelove entered the studio and had a brief, disturbing encounter with co-host Craig Melvin, reportedly using racial slurs before being apprehended. Roker and Melvin were subsequently granted protective orders against Truelove.
