A U.S. Air Force airman died Thursday in a fatal accident at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, 23, was operating heavy equipment when it rolled down an embankment, according to officials.

Eneluna was the only person killed in the incident. U.S. Space Force Col. James T. Horne III, commander of Space Launch Delta 30 and Vandenberg Space Force Base, expressed grief over the loss. "Our Vandenberg family is grieving alongside Cedric’s loved ones and his teammates," Horne said. "He made a lasting impression on his teammates through his character, dedication, and genuine care for others."

The investigation into the exact cause of death and the specific type of equipment Eneluna was operating is ongoing.

Eneluna joined the military on March 5, 2024, after moving to Missouri from the Philippines. Vandenberg was his first duty assignment. He was a member of the "Dirt Boyz," a unit specializing in pavements and equipment for the U.S. Air Force, which supports the base's launch, test, and range operations.

Vandenberg Space Force Base is utilized for launching satellites and testing intercontinental ballistic missiles. No other individuals were injured during the accident.
