An Air Force lawyer is facing potential jail time after a large party at his $1.5 million Michigan mansion resulted in charges of disorderly conduct, breach of the peace, and public nuisance. Alex Simpson, 42, who owns the Birmingham home, was not present at the June 13 gathering but is accused of allowing a friend, Rodney Harrington, to host the event.
Revelers attended the party, which featured a pool and attracted significant attention from neighbors concerned about traffic congestion and noise. Images from the event showed partygoers dancing in the pool and twerking on cars, leading to complaints about the disruption to the residential neighborhood. One woman was filmed dancing in the pool, and others were seen twerking on vehicles, causing traffic jams on the street.
Simpson pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a $1,000 bond. He has apologized to his neighbors and is considering legal action against the city, which he claims handled the incident in an "improper and discriminatory" manner. Simpson alleges that city officials initially told revelers the noise level was appropriate and the party did not need to be shut down. He also claims the city has since posted notices on his property regarding past home renovation permits and asked him to resign from his position as an alternate hearing officer for the city.
Simpson stated that he allowed Harrington, whom he described as a family friend, and some cousins to host the party on the condition that they make a donation to charity. Harrington, 27, has also been charged with noise ordinance violations and permitting a gathering of disorderly persons. He also pleaded not guilty and was released on bond. Both men are prohibited from renting out property or hosting parties in Birmingham as a condition of their release.
Simpson expressed concern that the criminal charges could negatively impact his legal and military careers. He stated that his family has also been subjected to doxxing, with his daughter's full name and his son's school being shared online, causing significant distress. Investigators believe the house was rented out by Simpson to a third party, who then sublet it to Harrington for the party. Neighbors, however, reported that the party appeared to be "out of control" by 6 p.m., with guests leaving after 9:30 p.m.
