Aikman-Buck Feud Explodes, Sparking Tensions at ESPN

Hard feelings are surfacing for Troy Aikman as his time at ESPN appears to be nearing an end, according to recent reports. Aikman, a former Cowboys quarterback turned broadcaster, reportedly had an explosive argument with Joe Buck before a "Monday Night Football" game on Oct. 12. The dispute stemmed from Buck's recent $108 million contract extension with ESPN, which Aikman apparently viewed as a betrayal while his own contract negotiations remained unresolved.

According to a report from The Athletic, Aikman also clashed with ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro. The network appears to be siding with Buck in the ongoing situation. Aikman's side reportedly believes Buck is adept at manipulating situations to his advantage, particularly in securing a significant pay raise as part of a deal that was initially a package with Aikman's. Buck's new six-year contract is valued at $108 million, while ESPN has not yet reached an agreement with Aikman.

Further complicating matters, Aikman has reportedly taken Buck's secrecy regarding contract negotiations personally. Conversely, Buck's representatives are said to be frustrated with Aikman's alleged demands for specific replays during broadcasts, which reportedly created difficulties for production staff.

During the pre-game argument, Buck is quoted as saying to Aikman, "You are not going to f—ing talk to me? I’m not the reason you don’t have a contract." Aikman reportedly responded, "I just never thought you’d do it to me," and also voiced frustration over the frequent changes in producers and directors for "Monday Night Football."

Buck allegedly countered Aikman's complaints about staff turnover by saying, "They got rid of them because you were screaming at them." Aikman's representatives reportedly offered ESPN a contract renewal with a raise comparable to Buck's, but the network declined the proposal.
