AI Firm Anthropic Announces Plans for Historic Stock Market Debut
The artificial intelligence company, known for its AI chatbot Claude, intends to list on the Nasdaq, potentially marking the largest market debut in history.

Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic has revealed details of its business, announcing its intention to sell stock to the public in what is expected to be a historic market debut. The company, which developed the AI chatbot Claude, stated it plans to list on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol ANT. The specific number of shares and their pricing are yet to be determined.
Anthropic's valuation upon going public is anticipated to surpass that of SpaceX, which previously held the record for the largest stock listing with an initial valuation of approximately $1.8 trillion. This move will mark the first time a pure-play artificial intelligence company will be publicly traded, serving as a significant test for the future of the technology.
Tech companies have been making substantial investments in AI infrastructure and tools, including data centers and foundational AI models, with over $1 trillion reportedly spent in the last year alone. Anthropic, founded five years ago by CEO Dario Amodei, his sister Daniela Amodei, and five other co-founders, first announced its intention to go public in June.
Following Anthropic's announcement, rival OpenAI also declared its plans for a public listing, which is now reportedly expected in early next year. Concurrent with these public offering plans, both companies have faced challenges, including cyber-security breaches involving their AI agents and public warnings from current and former staff regarding the potential future harms of AI technology. Anthropic has reiterated its commitment to developing AI for human benefit while also cautioning investors about its inherent dangers.
