A 31-year-old AI entrepreneur, Yuhuai (Tony) Wu, is reportedly the buyer of a $70 million estate in Hillsborough, California, a sale that shattered local records. Wu is a co-founder of Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI.

The 12-acre property, located at 3000 Ralston Avenue, is designed to resemble a lakeside Italian villa, according to reports. The estate, known as Villa de Verano, includes a 12,000-square-foot main residence and a 4,600-square-foot guest house.

The grounds feature an extensive sports complex with a tennis court, putting green, horseshoe pit, and courts for pickleball, volleyball, and bocce. Additionally, the property includes a 150-seat amphitheater, a reflection pool, a koi pond, a large saltwater aquarium, and fountains reminiscent of those at the Bellagio casino.

Daikon no Hana Capital LLC is listed as the new owner of the property. An investment firm official named Jia Xu, reportedly linked to only one other major property transaction involving Wu, represented the LLC. The manager of the LLC, attorney Steven Anderson, is also connected to Wu's prior property dealings.

Wu's career includes previous roles at OpenAI and Google's DeepMind. He later co-founded xAI, the company behind the AI tool Grok. Wu and another co-founder resigned from xAI in February, days after SpaceX acquired xAI at a valuation of $1.25 trillion. At the time of his departure, Wu stated on X (formerly Twitter) that it was "time for my next chapter" and that "a small team armed with AIs can move mountains and redefine what’s possible."

The $70 million sale price makes this one of the most significant residential transactions in the Bay Area's history. For comparison, Elon Musk sold his Hillsborough mansion for $30 million in 2021. Laurene Powell Jobs purchased a home in San Francisco for $71 million this year, and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son acquired a Woodside property for $117.5 million.

The sale of 3000 Ralston Avenue is noted as Northern California's largest home sale of the current year.
