AFL WAG Defends Controversial Brownlow Medal Dress as Breastfeeding-Friendly

Neila Bontempelli, the wife of Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli, faced criticism online for her unique gown choice at the 2026 Brownlow Medal event. The silk kimono-style dress, featuring a loose silhouette and a floral accent, drew polarized reactions from social media users.

Bontempelli, who welcomed her daughter Daisy Isobel just one month prior to the event, explained on Instagram that the gown's design was intentionally practical for breastfeeding. She shared that the dress had a neckline that could be easily pulled aside to feed her infant.

Despite her explanation, some online commenters were harsh. Remarks included comparisons to a boxing robe and a "badly wrapped Christmas present." Others questioned her fashion sense, with one user suggesting she had forgotten to remove her night robe.

However, the WAG also received significant support from fans who defended her choice. Bontempelli and Marcus Bontempelli welcomed their first child together on August 14. The couple, married in October of the previous year, met in 2021. Daisy Isobel is their first child, and the couple resides in Melbourne.
