AFL WAG Criticizes Taylor Swift's Music Post-Marriage, Sparks Swiftie Backlash

Australian media personality Dee Salmin has ignited controversy among fans of Taylor Swift with recent comments criticizing the pop superstar's music. Salmin, a host for Triple J radio and partner of AFL player Darcy Moore, shared her views on her Substack, suggesting that Swift's lyrical quality has diminished since her marriage to NFL player Travis Kelce.

Salmin expressed that Swift's latest work, specifically referencing "Patient Zero," does not compare to earlier songs like "Cornelia Street" and "Peace," which she described as deeply moving. She attributed this perceived decline to Swift's shift in life experiences, stating, "This is what happens when you write music and centre your entire life around men. Your art will reflect it." Salmin also critiqued songs she believes are inspired by Kelce, interpreting them as boastful about being "chosen" and possessing a husband, a sentiment she finds "shallow and surface-level."

She further elaborated on her feelings of disappointment, writing, "I want women to know they are worth more than just finding a man that 'doesn't find you completely insufferable.' Being chosen isn't the goal." Salmin concluded that Swift's recent music reflects a "bitter" tone, which she feels is unfair given Swift's success and happiness, ultimately leading her to feel "in mourning" for the artist's past work.

This is not the first time Salmin has voiced strong opinions on relationships and public declarations of affection. In a previous instance, she criticized women who frequently post about their boyfriends online, arguing that partners should not be praised for fulfilling basic expectations.

Salmin, 31, has been in a long-term relationship with Collingwood captain Darcy Moore since 2023. The couple moved in together earlier this year. Salmin hosts the sex education program "The Sunday Hook Up" on Triple J and has previously discussed her relationship on the ABC show "Ladies, We Need To Talk," where she highlighted that she and Moore do not adhere to traditional heterosexual gender roles regarding domestic duties.
