An 18-year-old Afghan migrant who traveled nearly 200 miles to fatally stab a shop worker in London has pleaded guilty to murder and faces a life sentence.

Suliaman Tajzai, who reportedly arrived in Britain four years ago via a small boat crossing from France, traveled from his home in Leeds to lie in wait outside the residence of Farmanullah Sherzad in London. On March 27, Tajzai attacked Mr. Sherzad as he returned home, chasing him and stabbing him with a large kitchen knife. Police found Mr. Sherzad deceased with the weapon still lodged in his chest.

Tajzai, whose age is understood to be 18 but who claims he does not know his date of birth, had previously been granted temporary leave to remain in the UK until January 2029 after making an asylum claim.

During his trial, Tajzai initially denied murder, with his defense presenting psychiatric evidence suggesting he was a traumatized refugee suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. However, on the fourth day of the proceedings, he changed his plea to guilty.

Footage presented in court showed Tajzai purchasing knives in Leeds on the day of the killing. He then traveled to London, altered his appearance, and proceeded to the area near Westminster Abbey where the attack occurred. The prosecution stated that Tajzai's actions were premeditated.

Mr. Sherzad, 26, was reportedly heard screaming during the chase. The court heard that Tajzai and his cousin, Zakirullah Tarakhail, had previously confronted Mr. Sherzad due to his alleged secret communications with Mrs. Tarakhail. Six months prior to the stabbing, Mr. Tarakhail had filed a police report against Mr. Sherzad for stalking and trespass. Although police investigated, Mrs. Tarakhail did not cooperate fully. In a separate incident, police responded to the Tarakhail residence where Mr. Sherzad was found with his wrists bound. Mr. Sherzad stated at the time that he and Mrs. Tarakhail were romantically involved and that he had been lured to the flat, only to be ambushed by Mr. Tarakhail and Tajzai. The case against him was ultimately dropped.

Tajzai has admitted to murder and possession of a knife in a public place. He was taken into custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday.
