Adopted Woman Finds Sister on "Long Lost Family"
A tearful reunion unfolds as a woman sees her twin sister's photo for the first time.
A woman identified as Naomi experienced a profound emotional moment on the ITV series "Long Lost Family" when she was shown a photograph of her twin sister, Elaine, for the first time. The episode, which focuses on Naomi's search for her birth mother and siblings, is set to air on Thursday at 9 p.m.
Naomi, who was adopted in Plymouth, grew up knowing she was adopted. Her curiosity about her biological family intensified, and she was given a letter by her adoptive parents, who have since passed away. This letter revealed that her birth mother had given birth to twin girls in addition to Naomi, and that these twins had also been placed for adoption.
"It told them about my mum being 19 when she'd had me… And it described that she'd had twin girls and that they'd been adopted elsewhere," Naomi shared in the episode. "And these babies were placed for adoption by a society in Cheshire. I was obviously very surprised when I found out that I had sisters. It was shocking."
Naomi embarked on a search for her birth mother and sisters, driven by questions about their well-being and whether they had been kept together. The "Long Lost Family" team managed to locate Naomi's birth mother, who expressed openness to future communication but indicated she was not yet ready for a face-to-face meeting. Host Nicky Campbell noted the potential difficulty for Naomi in having to wait for her birth mother to be ready.
The search also led to the discovery of Naomi's twin sisters' names: Gail and Elaine. Tragically, Gail had passed away in 2020 after a battle with Motor Neurone Disease. However, the team was able to connect with Elaine, who resides in Manchester.
Elaine, who also had a positive experience with her adoptive parents, expressed her readiness to meet Naomi, stating, "The fact that she's gone to so much effort to find us, she must really want to meet us."
Upon being shown a photograph and a letter from Elaine, Naomi became visibly emotional. "Oh look. Wow," she said to host Davina McCall. McCall commented on their resemblance, saying, "I think you look alike. I can see it for sure." Naomi described her sister's aura as "very warm, very welcoming" and noted that she "looks happy."
The episode concluded with McCall embracing Naomi as she became tearful, a moment symbolizing the familial connection she had long sought.
Additionally, the episode featured another story about Liz, who was adopted and searched for her birth mother and an older brother. Her search resulted in the discovery that her brother, John, is living nearby in Lancashire.
