Singer Adele, despite amassing a £170 million net worth, maintains a connection to her humble beginnings, according to Paul Drayton, the former husband of comedian Alan Carr. Drayton, in his autobiography "Ride Or Die Trying," recounts instances of Adele enjoying inexpensive wine and seeking out bargains.
Drayton, who was once part of a close-knit trio with Adele and Carr, shared memories of their evenings together. He described how Adele would often bring a budget bottle of wine for their get-togethers. He also recalled taking Adele to TK Maxx for the first time, where she was reportedly amazed by the availability of discounted items.
Beyond her shopping habits, Drayton also claimed to have played a role in Adele meeting her first husband, Simon Konecki. The couple met in 2011 and welcomed their son, Angelo, the following year, before separating in 2018. Adele is now engaged to sports agent Rich Paul.
Drayton wrote in his book that Adele confided in him and Carr, trusting them with her personal matters. He stated, "She was always very honest and open with me and Alan because she knew she could trust us."
The autobiography also addresses Drayton's personal struggles, including his battle with alcoholism and a 2022 drink-driving arrest. He narrowly avoided jail time after his appeal against a suspended sentence for reversing into a police car with an alcohol level described as "off the scale."
Carr spoke about his ex-partner's addiction, describing the difficulty of witnessing someone struggle with substance abuse and the impact of broken promises regarding sobriety. He shared how the situation became untenable, comparing it to watching someone die.
Paul Drayton and Alan Carr were married in 2018, with Adele officiating their wedding at her Los Angeles home. The couple later separated in 2022. It remains unclear if Drayton and Adele maintain their close relationship.
