Adam Thomas has unveiled a dramatic physical transformation, achieving a six-pack and losing 19 pounds after grappling with body confidence issues stemming from a debilitating autoimmune diagnosis. The actor, who rose to prominence on British television, shared his journey in the September issue of Men's Fitness, detailing how he reduced his body fat from 19.2% to 12.2%.
Thomas's health and confidence were significantly affected after his appearance on the reality television show 'I'm a Celebrity,' which aired earlier this year. He described the experience as "heartbreaking" and admitted to experiencing a slump in mood, particularly during challenges and interactions with fellow contestants. He noted that the show's filming in 2025 and subsequent broadcast revealed moments where he was visibly struggling.
The autoimmune diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis, which Thomas received in 2023 before participating in 'Strictly Come Dancing' and later 'I'm a Celebrity,' has been a central challenge. This condition causes the immune system to attack the body's joints and skin, leading to stiffness, swelling, and inflammation. Thomas has spoken about how the illness has weakened him to the point where he struggled with everyday tasks.
Thomas's training regimen was adapted by his coach, Steve Chambers, to accommodate his condition, particularly issues with his wrists. He learned to modify exercises and employ different techniques to train effectively while protecting his joints. The transformation, which began in February and was completed in 14 weeks, involved a high-protein, low-carb diet with a modest calorie deficit.
Balancing his demanding fitness goals with family life and work presented considerable challenges. However, the prospect of appearing on the cover of Men's Fitness served as a significant motivator. Thomas expressed that the physical changes have led to him becoming a "happier person" and a better partner and father, emphasizing that his family benefits from his improved well-being.
Looking ahead, Thomas is considering participating in HYROX, a global endurance competition. Reflecting on his 'I'm a Celebrity' experience, he admitted to struggling with pain and hiding his condition, regretting not speaking up sooner. He learned that resilience does not equate to silence and that advocating for oneself is important, even when trying to maintain peace.
