Adam Schefter Explains Why Maxx Crosby Trade is Unlikely for Raiders
ESPN insider Adam Schefter detailed the specific reasons why a deal involving the Las Vegas Raiders star is improbable.
Las Vegas Raiders fans may have grown accustomed to hearing Maxx Crosby's name in trade rumors, but ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter suggests a deal is unlikely as the league's trade deadline approaches. Schefter explained on "The Pat McAfee Show" that Crosby's significance to the franchise makes him a difficult asset to move.
"Maxx Crosby, the issue there is he means so much to that franchise," Schefter said. "He was the one that was forcing the issue in the offseason; he was the one that wanted to be traded. Initially, the Raiders balked, and then they found two [first-round picks]. And I don’t think they’re getting that back now."
Schefter noted that while Crosby was reportedly seeking a trade in the offseason, the Raiders' current 3-4 record keeps them in a competitive position, making a significant roster change less probable. The value the Raiders might receive in a trade now is likely less than the two first-round picks they were reportedly offered earlier in the year.
"He’s an unbelievable player. I don’t think they’re getting two [first-round picks], and so maybe it just makes sense to hold on to him," Schefter added. "You don’t want to sell off the heart and soul of your team, the face of your franchise. You don’t want to do that. And I don’t know anybody would give up enough to make it happen… The trade talks surrounding Maxx Crosby have lost a little bit of steam."
Crosby has become a pivotal figure for the Raiders, not only for his performance on the field but also for his leadership and connection with the fanbase. A potential trade involving him mid-season, particularly while the team maintains a competitive record, could be met with significant fan backlash. Ultimately, Schefter indicated that the current circumstances and potential return likely mean Crosby will remain with the Raiders.
