Adam Sandler officiated the wedding of pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce on Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Swift's publicist confirmed the actor's role in the ceremony, which followed the couple's engagement announcement in August 2025.
Swift and Kelce, both 36, exchanged vows in front of over 1,000 guests. Among the attendees were actress Selena Gomez and model Gigi Hadid. The wedding took place amidst considerable speculation regarding its location and timing. Initial reports suggested a wedding over the July 3rd weekend at Madison Square Garden, with guests reportedly signing non-disclosure agreements to protect privacy.
The couple had reportedly considered Rhode Island, where Swift owns an estate, before opting for a larger venue to accommodate more attendees. Sources confirmed to Page Six just hours before the rehearsal dinner on July 3 that the couple was "already legally married."
Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, and Swift, a Grammy-winning singer, began their relationship publicly in September 2023. The NFL star proposed to Swift at his Kansas City home after they filmed an episode of his podcast, "New Heights." Their engagement was announced via social media with a joint post that read, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨."
Both Swift and Kelce have spoken about their relationship. Swift described Kelce as "just my favorite person I’ve ever met" in an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." Kelce, in a GQ cover story interview in August 2025, said their romance "just took the f–k off" and that they share core values. He also noted that when he is with Swift, "it feels like we’re just regular people."
Kelce's father, Ed Kelce, previously told ABC News 5 that Swift had been "antsy" for the proposal and that he had repeatedly advised his son to make the moment special. He also credited Swift with contributing to his son's happiness, stating, "They're two people obviously very much in love."
The couple's relationship has been marked by mutual support, with both attending each other's professional events and displaying public affection. Kelce's cameo in the upcoming film "Happy Gilmore 2" reportedly played a role in Sandler's involvement as officiant. In the film, Kelce's character is instructed by Sandler's character to go to his "happy place."
