Adam Peaty, the Olympic swimming champion, is looking forward to welcoming a baby girl with his wife Holly in December and intends to focus on his growing family while preparing for the 2024 Los Angeles Olympics. Peaty has expressed a desire to "get lost in being a husband and father," acknowledging that fatherhood will require a significant adjustment to his training regimen and sleep schedule.
Despite winning three medals at the recent Commonwealth Games, Peaty did not secure a gold medal, finishing with silver in the 4x100 medley relay and bronze in the 50m breaststroke. He indicated that a public family rift has been weighing on him, contributing to a feeling of being "off" during the competition. This marks the first major competition where Peaty's parents have not been present to support him poolside, following a public fallout that began in 2024 when wider family members were not invited to his engagement party and wedding.
Peaty's mother, Caroline Peaty, has publicly stated that she and her husband expect nothing back from their son and that they have been subjected to online abuse. She expressed a desire for the family to be left alone to move on with their lives. The conflict reportedly stems from Peaty and his wife Holly not inviting several family members to their wedding and Holly's hen party.
Peaty, who previously suggested his family feud had taken a toll on his performance, is now focusing on finding a balance. "What an incredible gift and an incredible blessing," he said of his upcoming child, adding that he wants to "give our time, give our energy, give our love" to his family. He plans to work towards finding a formula for balancing fatherhood and his athletic pursuits over the next two years leading up to the Los Angeles Olympics.
