Adam Copeland Defeats Steve Maclin in Street Fight at Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling's Northern Rising
The veteran wrestler achieved a lifelong dream of competing at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, securing a victory in the night's main event.
Adam Copeland fulfilled a childhood dream Saturday night, competing in Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling's Northern Rising event held at the historic Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The veteran performer faced off against Steve Maclin in the highly anticipated main event, a street fight that saw both wrestlers deliver a punishing performance.
Copeland had expressed his long-standing desire to wrestle in the iconic venue, having attended his first professional wrestling match there as a child. Despite his extensive career, including time in WWE, he had not previously had the opportunity to compete at Maple Leaf Gardens, as the company had moved to larger arenas.
Street Fight Showdown
The main event street fight between Copeland and Maclin was a brutal affair. Copeland, 52, demonstrated remarkable physicality, suplexing Maclin from the ring apron through a ladder positioned near the ropes. He also executed a splash from the top turnbuckle, sending Maclin crashing through a table set up outside the ring. Maclin retaliated, suplexing Copeland onto a ladder.
The match saw interference from Maclin's wife, Deonna Purrazzo, who sprayed both Copeland and the referee. However, wrestling legend Rhino evened the odds by spearing both Maclin and Purrazzo. In the climax, Copeland delivered a decisive spear through the ropes to Maclin before securing the pinfall for the victory.
Following the match, Copeland addressed the crowd, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to compete at Maple Leaf Gardens.
Championship Matches
The Northern Rising card also featured several championship bouts. Josh Alexander reclaimed the Undisputed MLP Canadian Championship from Stu Grayson in a hard-fought contest. Alexander, who had been sidelined by a knee injury, utilized a screwdriver, with assistance from Don Callis, to defeat Grayson.
Priscilla Kelly successfully defended her MLP Canadian Women’s Championship against Nikki Storm. Kelly maintained control throughout the match, retaining the title she has held for over 55 days. In another title defense, Andrade El Idolo retained the AEW National Championship against Rohan Raja. Despite Raja's strong performance, Andrade's in-ring prowess secured his victory, and he acknowledged Raja as a competitor to watch.
New Tag Team Champions Crowned
The MLP Canadian Tag Team Championship changed hands at Northern Rising. Grizzled Young Veterans, consisting of James Drake and Zack Gibson, defeated 1st Faction, as well as Sinner & Saints, to become the new champions. This marked the end of 1st Faction's reign at approximately 191 days.
