Actress Georgia Scholes Recounts Ordeal of Being 'Upskirted' in Manchester

The Bay actress Georgia Scholes has shared her distressing experience of being 'upskirted' during a night out with her sister in Manchester.

Scholes, 25, was with her 22-year-old sister Ale on Saturday when the incident occurred. She recounted on Instagram that after leaving a restaurant, they were followed up a staircase by two men behaving suspiciously. One of the men had his phone angled towards them, which Scholes realized was recording up her dress.

She confronted the man, who then quickened his pace and ignored their requests to delete the footage. The sisters attempted to seek assistance from security and members of the public to contact the police, but initially received no help. Eventually, a bouncer at a bar detained one of the men until the police arrived.

Scholes and her sister were informed by police around 1:30 AM that both suspects were in custody. The actress expressed her profound disappointment and sadness, stating that the incident ruined her night and diminished her faith in humanity.

"Sad because my faith in humanity has gone, faith in where I come from and my people has gone," she wrote. "Sad because I just wanted to have a nice night. Sad at how scary it is that even when sober you're so, so vulnerable. No one is safe."

Fans responded to her account with messages of support. Upskirting was made a specific criminal offense in England and Wales in 2019, following a campaign by activist Gina Martin.

Scholes is known for her role as Erin Fischer in the ITV crime drama series, The Bay, joining the cast in its third season and appearing in subsequent seasons through 2024 and 2025. The Daily Mail has contacted Greater Manchester Police for comment.
