Veteran actress Adrienne Barbeau, celebrated for her pivotal roles in 1980s horror and science fiction cinema, was recently seen on an outing in Los Angeles. Barbeau, now 81, braved warm temperatures to walk her dog.
Barbeau's career spans five decades and boasts an extensive filmography. She is particularly recognized for her work with director John Carpenter, to whom she was married from 1979 to 1984. Their collaborations include the 1978 thriller "Someone's Watching Me!," the 1980 supernatural horror film "The Fog," and the 1981 dystopian classic "Escape from New York."
The actress first gained prominence on Broadway as the original Betty Rizzo in the musical "Grease." She also starred as Carol Traynor, the divorced daughter of the titular character, in the popular sitcom "Maude" from 1972 to 1978.
Her film credits also include "The Great Houdini" (1976), George A. Romero's "Creepshow" (1982), "Swamp Thing" (1982), and the Rodney Dangerfield comedy "Back to School" (1986).
Beyond her live-action work, Barbeau is an accomplished voice actress, notably lending her voice to Catwoman in the DC Animated Universe. More recently, she appeared as Ruthie in the HBO series "Carnivàle" (2003-2005) and starred in the film "Oddities," released earlier this year. Another film is currently in post-production.
