Actor Josh Heuston Faces Backlash for 'Manspreading' at Paris Fashion Week
Australian star's seating posture sparks outrage among Japanese fans and online commentators citing cultural etiquette.
Actor Josh Heuston has drawn criticism following an incident at Paris Fashion Week where his seating posture was deemed a breach of etiquette by some observers, particularly those familiar with Japanese social customs. The controversy arose during the Louis Vuitton Menswear Spring/Summer 2027 show in June, where Heuston, known for his role in the Amazon Prime series "Off Campus," was seated next to Japanese idol Sho Hirano.
During the event, Heuston was observed to be 'manspreading,' with his legs spread wide while seated. Online reactions, particularly on Reddit, highlighted concerns that this posture created discomfort for Hirano, who appeared cramped. Commentators pointed out that Japan has more stringent social codes regarding personal space compared to many Western countries, where encroaching on another person's space without permission is considered impolite.
"I stand with Japan on this topic. So rude to press your body against others. He likely has no idea but that isn't a good enough excuse," one user commented. Another added, "I live in Japan and idol fans are extremely protective so I'm not surprised they are reacting strongly. Sitting like that here is pretty rude regardless." Others noted that such behavior is also considered rude in the United States.
Separately, Heuston has been the subject of romance rumors with his "Off Campus" co-star Mika Abdalla. The pair were photographed together in Paris appearing affectionate, with Heuston seen with his arm around Abdalla. These images fueled speculation among fans that their on-screen relationship has extended off-screen. Heuston was previously linked to model Carla Martinez from 2022 to 2025.
