Actor Bobb'e J. Thompson Sentenced to 30 Months in Federal Prison for Firearm Possession
The "That's So Raven" star pleaded guilty to charges related to a 2025 traffic stop where a stolen firearm and marijuana were found.
Bobb'e J. Thompson, an actor known for his childhood role on the Disney Channel series "That's So Raven," has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. The sentence was handed down Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa, following Thompson's guilty plea in April to charges of possession of a firearm by a felon.
The conviction stems from an incident on September 22, 2025, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa, law enforcement initiated a traffic stop for speeding, clocking Thompson driving 104 mph in a 70 mph zone. During the stop, officers observed Thompson and a passenger switching seats. The odor of marijuana was also detected emanating from the vehicle.
A search of a backpack belonging to Thompson revealed a loaded .40-caliber handgun and multiple bags of marijuana. Authorities reported that the firearm had been stolen from a vehicle in Kansas City, Missouri.
Thompson, 30, will be subject to a three-year period of supervised release after his incarceration. Federal law does not allow for parole.
Thompson was being held by U.S. Marshals pending his transfer to a federal correctional facility. The actor has a history of legal issues, including convictions in 2020 for battery with serious bodily injury and assault with force, and a 2022 conviction for prohibited firearm possession.
Thompson began his entertainment career over two decades ago. He is widely recognized for his role as Stanley Givens on "That's So Raven," appearing in 10 episodes between 2004 and 2006. His other television credits include "Wild 'N Out," "The Tracy Morgan Show," "30 Rock," "For Better or Worse," and "House of Payne." He has also appeared in films such as "School Dance," "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," and "Shark Tale." His recent work includes the 2026 film "The Funny Thing About Love," the 2024 short film "Hot Girl Getaway," and the 2021 TV film "Miracles Across 125th Street."
