Activist Exposed as White Woman Accused of Faking 'Blaccent'

Hannah Gann, a 34-year-old activist known for her advocacy within Philadelphia's pro-Palestine movement, is facing significant backlash after her true identity was revealed. Critics are accusing Gann of adopting a "blaccent" — a Black accent — and using makeup to conceal her white Jewish heritage, which includes parents residing in Israel. Gann herself admitted to lying about her identity and acknowledged she has no Palestinian or Tunisian heritage.

Reports indicate Gann, who grew up in a $1.8 million home in an affluent American suburb, frequently began her online videos with a phrase intended to mimic Black vernacular. These videos often featured lectures on racism and imperialism, drawing from what she presented as personal experiences.

Her online persona, which included wearing heavy bronzer, gold hoop earrings, and long acrylic nails, has drawn comparisons to Rachel Dolezal, the former NAACP president who was exposed for falsely claiming to be Black. Gann's alleged deception came to light following an exposé by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Following the revelations, Gann posted a video apology in which she spoke without the accent previously used in her social media content. Critics, however, noted the accent's inconsistency in her earlier clips and its absence in her apology.

Reactions on social media have been swift, with users criticizing Gann's use of a "blaccent" and makeup as part of her elaborate disguise. Comments included accusations of "colonizing her whole personality."

Gann's public persona reportedly began to form after a four-year assignment with the Peace Corps in Rwanda, where she worked as a teacher.
