Daejon Love, 35, has been arrested in Idaho and accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player to defraud dozens of women out of an estimated $1.3 million. His mugshot, showing him in an orange jail uniform with a stern expression, was released following his apprehension last week at a Boise airport.
Love and an alleged accomplice, 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan, are charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Prosecutors are seeking to keep Love detained, citing strong evidence against him and his perceived incentive to flee. The criminal complaint alleges that, beginning in February 2022, the pair created fraudulent investment opportunities targeting women in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California.
According to court documents, Love would initiate contact with victims through dating apps, while Chan would pose as his financial advisor to gain trust and guide them through the fake investments. Love also allegedly presented fabricated bank and investment account statements to legitimize the scheme. In some instances, when victims lacked funds, Love reportedly instructed them to take out personal loans with promises of quick repayment.
The complaint details instances where Love falsely claimed relationships with NFL players such as Tyreek Hill and Antonio Brown, and even falsely stated he was related to Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. One woman met Love on Tinder in March 2025 and reportedly sent him $17,200 for investments before Love ceased communication when questioned. Victims have not received any returns on their purported investments.
Financial records indicate Love and Chan received approximately $1.3 million from at least 26 identified victims, though the FBI suspects a larger number. The pair were arrested on August 24 as Chan was flying to Boise to meet Love, who was allegedly planning to meet new victims. Social media has since seen a wave of commentary and fabricated images mocking Love's alleged NFL connections, with even some NFL coaches and players joining in with jokes.
