Nikita Tyukalo, 22, accused of operating a human trafficking ring from a Bellevue, Washington, mansion, had his bail maintained at $5 million after prosecutors revealed he allegedly instructed associates in Russian to move significant sums of money from his accounts while in jail. Tyukalo faces multiple felony charges, including human trafficking, money laundering, and leading an organized crime operation.
Attorneys for Tyukalo had sought to reduce his bail to $100,000, arguing that his assets were seized and remaining funds were lost to credit card fraud. However, prosecutors presented evidence of recorded jailhouse calls in which Tyukalo allegedly directed someone to transfer hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Police raided the property, which had been the subject of numerous complaints from neighbors regarding loud parties, and discovered over 300 cell phones, more than 50 laptops, a notebook detailing women's names and earnings, a "Content Plan" whiteboard, financial records, and luxury vehicles. According to alleged victims, they were recruited to create adult content but were denied access to their earnings. They also reported being threatened, beaten, and restrained when they resisted demands.
One victim spoke at a court hearing, recounting the alleged threats and psychological manipulation. "I will never forget looking at someone I loved and hearing him tell me if I ever spoke about what I had been through and if I ever opened my mouth, he would kill me because I knew too much," she stated. "I watched manipulation become normal. I watched violence become normal. I watched controlling women become normal."
Tyukalo's defense attorneys have maintained that the charges are exaggerated and that he is only guilty of "wage theft."
