ABC Melbourne news anchor Ishkandar Razak has taken unexpected leave after experiencing a medical emergency while broadcasting live on air.
Viewers first noted concerns about Razak's health last week when a portion of his face appeared to be paralyzed during a report. Razak stated that he first felt an issue at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, when he realized he was "talking out of the side of my mouth." He added, "I feel a bit different."
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Razak confirmed that the condition was Bell's palsy, which causes sudden, temporary weakness or paralysis of muscles on one side of the face. "Keen people have noticed more than anything this eye is taking its time to shut," he said, gesturing to one side of his face. "So I am going to take a few days off and hopefully this will sort itself out."
