Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has shared recent moments with his family, marking significant progress in a reconciliation effort that followed a near-decade of estrangement. Rodgers documented a "bonding week" with his mother, Darla, father, Ed, and brother, Luke, along with his niece and nephew, ahead of what he anticipates will be his final NFL season.
The path to reconciliation, detailed by The Athletic's Ian O'Connor in his book "Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers," has been a gradual process. Rodgers invited his parents to his Pleasant Valley High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony in April, where he publicly acknowledged their support.
A pivotal moment occurred in 2023 at a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, where Rodgers reconnected with his father, Ed, for the first time in nearly nine years. He described the encounter as "a special moment" where they expressed their love for each other, and Rodgers indicated that a reconciliation was "definitely possible" and contingent on timing.
Longtime friends, including Rodgers' junior college coach Craig Rigsbee, reportedly encouraged the quarterback to mend his family ties. The recent family gathering included Luke Rodgers and his wife, Aimee, who was tagged in Rodgers' social media post. However, Rodgers' younger brother, Jordan, an ESPN college football analyst, and his wife, JoJo Fletcher, were not present during this specific bonding week. Jordan and Fletcher welcomed their daughter in December.
Rodgers' wife, Brittani, whom he married in the spring of 2025, was also not pictured in the recent family photos.
In his 2024 Netflix docuseries, "Aaron Rodgers: Enigma," the quarterback expressed openness to reconciliation, stating, "Yeah of course. Of course." He elaborated that while he does not wish ill will upon his family, their journeys have taken different paths. Rodgers had previously spoken about feeling distant from his family due to issues stemming from high school and college.
The estrangement was publicly visible during Jordan Rodgers' appearance on "The Bachelorette" in 2016, when Aaron was noticeably absent from a family gathering featured on the show. At that time, Aaron described the show as a "bulls–t show." Jordan and Fletcher did not attend Aaron and Brittani's wedding in 2025, and Aaron did not attend Jordan and JoJo's wedding in 2022, despite an invitation. Jordan Rodgers and JoJo Fletcher later welcomed their daughter, Romy Blair Rodgers, in December.
