Aaron Rodgers Employs 'Simon Cowell'-Style Quizzes for Steelers' Receivers

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has adopted a rigorous approach to preparing his receiving corps, employing pop quizzes that veteran tight end Robert Tonyan likens to the sharp critiques of television personality Simon Cowell. This method aims to ensure all players are thoroughly prepared for game situations.

Rodgers' intense questioning was recently directed at rookie receiver Germie Bernard before his first career start against the Indianapolis Colts. Bernard, a second-round draft pick, faced a barrage of inquiries from the four-time NFL MVP about both teams' operations. After successfully answering Rodgers' questions, Bernard received a nod of approval from the veteran quarterback.

"What I’ve learned from Aaron is like, OK, I know that the reason why he’s doing this because he wants us to be prepared all-around," Bernard stated, as reported by ESPN. "He wants to make sure that we know what we’re doing when we’re out there playing with him."

This tradition of quizzing teammates originated with Rodgers in 2009 when he became the Green Bay Packers' starting quarterback. The practice has continued, with Jordan Love, who succeeded Rodgers in Green Bay, also employing similar tests.

"It’s pretty eye-opening to see who knows the plan, see who knows who we’re playing and who their personnel is," Rodgers told reporters. "I just think it’s important to keep those guys on their toes and keep those guys studying and making sure they’re watching film and knowing what’s in the plan. There’s always going to be those quizzes, and hopefully, they get a little bit better."

Rodgers, who has indicated this will be his final NFL season, has accumulated 1,234 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions in five games this season. The Steelers, currently 3-2, are preparing to face the Buccaneers, who hold a 1-4 record. The team is also managing injuries within the receiving group, with key players Roman Wilson and Skowronek sidelined and star receiver DK Metcalf listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup.
