Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has credited his wife, Brittani, for playing a significant role in his reunion with his family, with whom he was estranged for nearly a decade. In an interview with NFL Network's Kyle Brandt, Rodgers described the reconciliation as "beautiful" and "special," emphasizing his wife's supportive presence.
Rodgers, who is entering his 22nd and final NFL season, stated that getting married opened his mind to the possibility of reconnecting with his relatives. He first mentioned his wife publicly in December 2024 and confirmed in June 2025 that they had married a couple of months prior. He has been private about their relationship, only revealing her name as Brittani.
"I got to give my wife a lot of credit — not that she was pushing me, because she never was, but just the way that she loves and supports me," Rodgers said. "Having her by my side during this process has been really special, and I miss those relationships. And there's reasons for it that don't need to be talked about but I'm thankful that that's come all the way back around."
Last month, Rodgers shared photos on Instagram from a family "bonding week" that included his mother Darla, father Ed, brother Luke, niece Evie, and nephew Jack. He expressed a desire to keep personal matters private but aimed to counteract a long-standing narrative. He noted the reconnecting process has been ongoing for several years.
In 2023, Rodgers made contact with his father, Ed, for the first time in nearly nine years at the Lake Tahoe celebrity golf tournament. In April of this year, he invited his parents to his Pleasant Valley High School Hall of Fame induction, where he publicly thanked them for their support.
"I got to spend a long weekend recently — [where] those [social media] pictures are from — in Nashville with my parents and his brother and his sweet wife and their incredible two kids," Rodgers added. "So I got to be an uncle, so it's really special."
Rodgers also indicated that Brittani's support influenced his decision to play another season. "I thought last year might be it and then Mike [McCarthy] got hired, and then talked to the wife and she said, 'You can do one more year. See if it works out.' And then it kinda all came together," he said after signing a one-year deal with the Steelers.
Last season, Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, concluding with a wild-card loss to the Texans. He has kept details about his family estrangement private but emphasized the positive outcome of their reconciliation and his wife's role in facilitating it.
