Aaron Rodgers has alleged that his ex-fiancée, Shailene Woodley, asked to sleep with someone else days after accepting his marriage proposal. The NFL player, 42, discussed the December 2020 engagement and subsequent breakup on the "Not Just Football" podcast.
Rodgers stated that Woodley, 34, may have "felt like she was forced to make a decision" but "could have said no." He further claimed, "She said yes. … A couple days after that she tells me, ‘Before we get married I gotta go f–k this guy.’"
Rodgers did not identify the individual Woodley allegedly referred to. He said the actress "took off the ring" by March 2021. "We had a couple times where we tried to get reunited and nothing ever happened," Rodgers said. "There wasn’t even a relationship in 2022 to break off. She literally told me, ‘I don’t want to be with you,’ after we tried some reconciliation in 2021."
He also criticized Woodley and other ex-partners for speaking about him in interviews, suggesting they do so to gain public attention. "Move on with your life. Don’t mention me," Rodgers stated. He added, "Shai, you left me, you took the ring off. Her story is that I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her. … What are we talking about regarding me ruining your life?"
Rodgers' comments appear to reference Woodley's past statements about their relationship. In a 2024 interview with Outside magazine, Woodley described her relationship with Rodgers as "not right" and recalled a "really awful, traumatic" unspecified incident in early 2022 that led her to feel she "lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy." She referred to this period as "the lowest low of [her] life."
In another 2024 interview with Bustle, Woodley discussed her past attraction to unavailability and stated she is no longer interested in individuals who disrespect her. In January 2023, she described the split from Rodgers as the "darkest, hardest time of [her] life," telling Net-a-Porter that her personal life was "s–tty, so it felt like a big pain bubble for eight months."
News of Rodgers and Woodley dating emerged in February 2021, with their engagement announced shortly after. The couple reportedly ended their relationship by early 2022. Woodley has not publicly announced a new relationship since their breakup. Rodgers is now married to Brittani, whom he stated he first dated and split from in 2017 before they reconnected.
