Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has addressed circulating rumors about a "racy DM scandal" involving Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Drew Allar during his college years at Penn State. Rodgers appeared on the "Not Just Football with Cam Heyward" podcast to discuss the situation, stating that the direct messages were "made up" and "a little racy," but not true.
Rodgers explained that the DM thread went viral among quarterback rooms, including his own, as is common with college player news. "When I heard Drew Allar, first thing I thought was ‘Ah that DM.’ Cause I remember seeing that," Rodgers said on the podcast. He recalled asking Allar about the scandal upon meeting him, to which Allar reportedly denied its veracity and stated he had been in a committed relationship.
Allar, 22, has been in a relationship with his girlfriend, Emma Bush, since September 2019 when they were high school students. Bush has continued to support Allar as he transitions to the NFL after attending Penn State while she went to rival Ohio State.
During the podcast appearance, Rodgers also commented on the Steelers' quarterback depth chart. He noted that veteran Mason Rudolph has distinguished himself in the competition for the backup role. Rodgers praised both Allar and fellow rookie Will Howard for their performances in preseason games, calling them "sponges" who are learning quickly. The Steelers are preparing to open their 2026 season against the Atlanta Falcons.
