Aaron Paul Remembers RJ Mitte as an 'Inspiration' in Tribute Post
The 'Breaking Bad' star shared fond memories of his late co-star, calling his passing an 'absolute tragic loss.'
Aaron Paul, known for his role as Jesse Pinkman in "Breaking Bad," has paid tribute to his late co-star RJ Mitte, remembering him as an "inspiration" and an "absolute tragic loss." Mitte, who portrayed Walter "Flynn" White Jr. on the acclaimed series, died by suicide on Monday at the age of 34.
In a social media post accompanied by a throwback video of Mitte speaking about mental health, Paul reflected on their last encounter. "The last time we saw each other I kept calling you Superman," Paul captioned the post. "You reminded me of him because you always led with kindness and strength. It was blinding."
Paul, 47, highlighted Mitte's resilience, noting that the actor, who had cerebral palsy, "was born into a world with challenges" but "never let any of that stand in [his] way."
The "El Camino" actor expressed his grief, stating, "What an absolute tragic loss. I loved your laugh and how much fun you had riding the wave we were all blessed to be on with Breaking Bad."
Paul concluded his emotional tribute by urging readers to reach out if they are struggling. "I hope whoever is reading this note that feels lost or sad or uncertain about the future would please say something. Life is so damn special. Connect with someone you care about and say I love you. RJ, I love you my friend. I’m so sorry."
In a previous statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Paul described himself as being "at a loss" following Mitte's death. "I am heartbroken over this news. RJ, I love you my friend," he wrote. "You will be missed. And to whoever happens to be reading this, please know you are loved, and you are not alone. Always remember that."
Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White, also shared his grief, writing on Instagram that he was in "despair" over the loss of Mitte and had "thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series."
Mitte's representatives confirmed his death to Page Six, stating he was a "beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate." He was recognized for his authentic portrayal of Walter "Flynn" White Jr. on "Breaking Bad," using his own experience with cerebral palsy to advocate for disability awareness and inclusion.
News of Mitte's death has deeply impacted his hometown community in Brownville, Texas. "RJ was a beloved member of our community, and his passing has left us shocked and heartbroken," Cameron County Justice of the Peace Judge Cyndi Hinojosa told Page Six. "He meant so much to this community, and his loss will be deeply felt."
Mitte's reps confirmed to Page Six that his death was by suicide, with an autopsy pending to determine the official manner of death.
