Aaron Judge's Postseason Status Uncertain Amidst Calf Strain

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge has not yet resumed baseball activities as he recovers from a calf strain, leaving his availability for the American League wild-card series in question. Judge is currently limited to rehabilitation exercises and work on the treadmill, with manager Aaron Boone stating on Sunday that he has not yet engaged in much beyond that. The deadline for the Yankees to submit their 26-man roster for the wild-card series is Tuesday morning, at which point a final decision on Judge's inclusion will be made in consultation with the training and medical staff.

Earlier in the week, Boone had indicated that the team was not anticipating Judge being on the roster for the initial playoff round, though the player himself had expressed a desire to be available. Boone has not yet discussed with trainers whether Judge could be added to the roster later in the series if he is not ready for the start.

Judge's status is one of several injury-related considerations for the Yankees as they finalize their roster to face the Boston Red Sox. Giancarlo Stanton, who has been sidelined for five months with multiple calf strains, is expected to be available as a pinch hitter. Trent Grisham, out since early September with a hamstring strain, could start in center field. Ryan Weathers, recovering from a left forearm flexor strain, has thrown live batting practice and is considered a strong possibility for the bullpen, offering a left-handed pitching option.

Grisham reported feeling physically ready, and Weathers expressed confidence in his health after a recent bullpen session. Boone indicated that a decision on Weathers would be made on Monday. Regarding Stanton, Boone noted the veteran's familiarity with his own body and his track record of performance in critical situations.
