Los Angeles Rams legend Aaron Donald underwent a second official workout with the team this summer, intensifying speculation about a potential return to the NFL. Donald was listed on the NFL's transaction wire on Sunday as a player who "tried out" for the team. This marks the second such audition for the eight-time All-Pro, who previously spent 10 seasons with the Rams and first worked out for them on August 5.
Donald's participation occurred approximately two weeks after his initial tryout. The Rams were in Kansas City on Saturday for their preseason opener against the Chiefs, and did not hold an official practice on Sunday. It is likely that Donald's workout took place at the team's facility in Los Angeles on Saturday, alongside other players who did not travel for the game.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay acknowledged the ongoing dialogue with Donald. "We have a great dialogue. It’s going to be on his timeline. When he feels good about having clarity, whether that is yes or whether that ends up being a no, we have had some tentative decisions behind the scenes," McVay told the California Post's Vinnie Bonsignore on Saturday night. McVay indicated that the team has identified potential dates for a decision but does not want to exert unnecessary pressure on Donald.
The Rams have reportedly been hesitant to rush Donald into a decision regarding his retirement status. Given the current state of the team's defensive line, there is no immediate urgency for the veteran defensive tackle to make a definitive choice. However, two official workouts in mid-August suggest a strong possibility of Donald returning to play.
