Aaron Donald has further intensified speculation about a potential return to the NFL by participating in a workout at the Los Angeles Rams' practice facility. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year, who retired after the 2023 season, was reportedly videotaped engaging in an hour-long training session.
The workout reportedly included agility drills, ladder work, and medicine ball throws. While Donald has maintained a high level of fitness and often posts workout videos, this sighting at the Rams' facility has drawn particular attention.
Rumors surrounding Donald's possible return gained traction following the Rams' acquisition of Myles Garrett, the reigning defensive player of the year. Rams head coach Sean McVay addressed the speculation with a guarded, yet optimistic, response. "If he's interested, there is an opportunity... Aaron's a guy that I stay really close in touch with," McVay said, acknowledging Donald's respect for Garrett and the possibility of bringing him back. McVay added that if Donald, at 35, decided to return, he believes the star defensive lineman could still perform at a high level.
Former Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth also commented on the possibility, stating that Donald has "a pique of interest" in rejoining the team. However, Whitworth suggested that Donald's comfort level with the physical risks associated with playing football again would be the ultimate deciding factor. "It's going to be how comfortable he is with going back out there and understanding not the positive, but the negative... And that is you get injured. Injuries, things that affect you past football," Whitworth explained. He added that Donald, like himself, continues to train regularly, and only Donald himself can determine if he feels ready to return to the gridiron.
The video of Donald training at the facility has led some analysts to believe he might be considering a comeback to pursue another Super Bowl with the current Rams roster.
