Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay expects all players, including recently un-retired defensive tackle Aaron Donald, to be on the flight to Australia for the team's Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers. While Donald's participation on the trip is anticipated, his availability for the game itself remains uncertain.

Donald, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, rejoined the Rams for the 2026 season after a brief retirement. His return raised questions about his preparation, as he did not participate in the team's full training camp. McVay stated that the team is taking Donald's readiness "one day at a time" and that "cautious" should precede "optimism" regarding his Week 1 status.

Despite the uncertainty, Donald's presence on the flight suggests he has a chance to play immediately. He spent 10 seasons with the Rams, earning Pro Bowl honors in each and consistently posing a significant challenge to opposing offenses. His return bolsters a defensive line that also features reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

In addition to Donald, McVay provided an update on wide receiver Puka Nacua, who has been dealing with a psoas injury. McVay described Nacua as "making good progress" and hitting "high-speed yards at a really good clip." The team also noted that Nacua has not been placed on the commissioner's exempt list as the NFL reviews a personal conduct policy matter related to a lawsuit filed in March. Nacua's attorney has denied the allegations made in the lawsuit.

The Rams are scheduled to play the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, marking the NFL's first-ever game on the continent. The 49ers are also reportedly bringing injured players George Kittle and Nick Bosa on their trip to Australia.
